This is one to watch. Socializing the TV experience with check-in currency.

Miso is a social entertainment game - the easiest way to share what you’re watching!

To use the app, you “check in” by sharing what you’re watching. And as with Foursquare, you can unlock badges the more use participate on the network. (At last - couch potatoes can have badges too!) These badges help you show off your interests to other Miso users so you can connect with similarly like-minded folks.

RT @MobileCrunch @BooyahTeam MyTown hits 1 million users before Foursquare or Gowalla http://bit.ly/ao6SOk
Booyah, the Kleiner Perkins iFund company, just announced that its hit location-based social game, MyTown, has passed 1 million registered users. MyTown is an extremely successful free iPhone game that enables users to buy and sell real world locations.
Not only is Booyah’s MyTown more successful than any of the other games in this category, it has also covered the map of the United States with check-ins. According to Keith, there has been a check-in at every single location that exists on Google Maps. I find that hard to believe, but it seems like they come close – a quick check while walking down the streets of Fremont or Berkeley (the two places I frequent most) shows that every single place has been checked into.
A couple more stats that Booyah shared with us:

-1 Million+ Registered Users-Averaged 100K new registered users a week since launching in December-40 Million+ Virtual items consumed each week-25 Million weekly check-ins-Daily engagement over 65 minutes

MediaPost: Social Media Growing As An Important Marketing Tool - Key is Listening and Engaging

When asked if the use of social media has been successful for their business, Twitter users report an 82% success rate while every other tool studied enjoys at least an 87% success level.

Measuring success was investigated and most respondents report using hits, comments, leads or sales as primary indicators of success.

The key is listening and engaging, says Weber, but the study indicates that companies are not engaging effectively. Among the Fortune 100 companies examined by Weber Shandwick, only:

  • 26% of their Twitter accounts were primarily used as a one-way flow of information that offered no engagement with followers.
  • 24% of the Twitter accounts were primarily used for brand awareness. Many appeared to be on Twitter simply to have an online presence.
  • 16% were used mainly as sales vehicles for company products and services.
  • 9% were directed primarily to customer service
  • 8% focused on Thought leadership it.
  • 14% of accounts were used for other reasons such as recruitment or employee-specific information, or their accounts were locked and not visible.
